We’re delighted to announce that one of the UK’s favourite racing son’s, Mark Blundell, will be providing content for F1 Paddock Pass from the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Blundell’s impressive motorsport career speaks for itself. At the age of 14 he found immediate success racing motocross bikes, eventually becoming one of the top riders in the UK. A switch to four wheels came at the age of 17, when he entered the Formula Ford series – which again resulted with immediate success. Crowns in the Esso British, Snetterton FF1600, BBC Grandstand Series and the FF2000 European Championship allowed Mark to land a drive in the Formula 3000 Series, showing incredible talent and natural ability in a demanding and closely contested series.
Formula One opportunities arose with a test drive for the Williams Formula One Team in 1989, however it wasn’t until 1991 that Blundell officially joined the grid, driving for Brabham. It wasn’t until 1993 that Blundell scored his first podium, now driving for Ligier. He transitioned to Tyrrell in 1994, scoring a third placed podium in Spain, and then moved onto McLaren in 1995, driving the infamous MP4/10.
In 1996, Blundell moved across the pond and relocated to the USA, driving in the Cart Series for PacWest Racing. In a five-year career, he managed a string of impressive performances, winning three races and finishing sixth in the Championship in 1997.
Not only respected for his open-wheel racing career, Blundell has also taken on the Le Mans 24 Hour Race an incredible seven times, winning with the Peugeot Team in 1992. In between his racing commitments, he joined the ITV Formula One Commentary Team, providing expert analysis from 2002 to 2008, when the coverage switched to the BBC.
Since leaving the driving circuit, Mark has regularly attended races as an FIA Race Steward and has created his own boutique sports agency, MB Partners. The company specialises in providing a turnkey service for elite sportspeople in motorsport and golf, as well as establishing the MB Young Driver Academy, which underlines Mark’s commitment to the development of, not only the careers of established professionals, but also the stars of tomorrow. Clients of MB Partners include 1996 Formula One World Champion, Damon Hill, Mercedes-AMG DTM and Williams F1 Test driver, Gary Paffett and European Tour golfing sensation, Jordan Smith to name just a few.
As a follower of F1 Paddock Pass, Mark is looking forward to sharing his views on Formula One:
“We are currently in the midst of one of the most exciting Formula One seasons in recent memory so naturally I am pleased to be sharing my thoughts with the F1 Paddock Pass audience, offering an insight into all the trials and tribulations behind the highest level of professional motorsport. What sets this year apart from others is not only are we enjoying a genuine title-battle but there are several interesting subplots right through the grid and off-the-track as well.”
F1 Paddock Pass is proud to partner with Mark Blundell and MB Partners in 2017.
